When Vald, one of the most daring French rappers of his generation, decided to announce his comeback and a tour, he wanted to make his mark. To do so, he opted for a visionary clip, Le Retour du V, shot using virtual production technology. Popularised by productions such as The Mandalorian, this revolutionary technique combines real-time 3D and monumental LED screens to immerse the artists in hyper-realistic digital sets.

An ambitious project at the cutting edge of technology
Our role on this project was to transpose Vald’s artistic vision into a striking sci-fi environment, while meeting the technical and logistical constraints of virtual production. With an extremely tight deadline, we orchestrated every stage, from visual conception to final rendering, exploiting the infinite possibilities offered by Unreal Engine.
Technical and artistic challenges brilliantly overcome
Virtual production relies on a range of cutting-edge technologies: the 3D environments must be perfectly optimised to be displayed in real time on giant LED screens, while taking into account the physical position of the artist on stage.
There are several key stages in this project
- Concept art, blocking and framing: We quickly developed preliminary visuals to define the general atmosphere and anticipate the technical constraints linked to CPU and GPU performance. The aim was to find the perfect balance between the sci-fi aesthetic required and the demands of real-time fluidity.
- Creation of a futuristic hangar: The final scene, an imposing and surprising science-fiction hangar, reflected the rapper’s bold universe. Every detail, from the industrial lighting to the metallic textures, was designed to enhance Vald’s performance and plunge the audience into a world of its own.
- Real-time optimisation: Thanks to the Unreal Engine, we’ve integrated realistic, fluid environments to ensure total immersion.
